How to Secure an SBLC Through Financely

Financely structures and coordinates Standby Letter of Credit transactions from USD 2,000,000. We prepare the applicant for underwriting, raise collateral financing where required, approach suitable financial counterparties and coordinate the transaction through bank issuance.

The Financely engagement fee is USD 32,500 per USD 1 million of SBLC face value. The minimum transaction is USD 2 million, resulting in a minimum engagement of USD 65,000.

A Structured Route to SBLC Issuance

An SBLC creates a bank-backed payment or performance obligation in favor of a beneficiary. The issuing institution therefore underwrites the applicant, the commercial purpose of the instrument, the collateral package and the proposed reimbursement structure.

Financely manages this process as a structured credit mandate. We establish the SBLC requirement, quantify the collateral position, prepare the underwriting file and determine which financing and banking channels fit the transaction.

Applicants can review our Standby Letter of Credit services before submitting their transaction.

STEP 01

Submit the SBLC Requirement

The process starts with the underlying commercial transaction. Financely needs to understand the obligation the SBLC will support and the beneficiary's requirements.

  • Required SBLC amount
  • Currency
  • Applicant
  • Beneficiary
  • Commercial purpose
  • Required tenor
  • Beneficiary bank
  • Proposed wording, where available
  • Existing collateral
  • Target issuance date
STEP 02

Eligibility and Credit Review

Financely reviews the applicant, beneficiary, jurisdiction, requested face value, tenor, transaction economics, repayment source, existing security and proposed wording. This establishes the preliminary credit structure and determines how much additional collateral support must be raised.

STEP 03

Execute the Financely Engagement

Qualified transactions proceed under a formal Financely engagement. Pricing is based on the SBLC face value at a fixed rate of USD 32,500 per USD 1 million.

Engagement Examples
USD 2 million SBLC — USD 65,000
USD 5 million SBLC — USD 162,500
USD 10 million SBLC — USD 325,000
STEP 04

Complete KYC and Underwriting Preparation

Financely builds the institutional transaction file required for credit review. Documentation depends on the transaction but commonly includes:

  • Certificate of incorporation and corporate records
  • Director and UBO identification
  • Financial statements
  • Bank statements
  • Underlying contracts
  • Beneficiary information
  • Collateral information
  • Repayment-source analysis
  • Proposed SBLC wording

The completed file is prepared for KYC, KYT, AML, sanctions and institutional credit review.

Collateral Financing

Financely Can Raise the Collateral Behind the SBLC

Applicants frequently have a legitimate SBLC requirement but lack the full cash collateral required by a conventional banking relationship. Financely structures and raises the collateral financing required to support eligible transactions.

The financing may be structured against receivables, inventory, contracts, real assets, cash flow, sponsor support or another financeable asset base. The collateral financing and SBLC issuance workstreams are coordinated under the same mandate.

STEP 05

Structure and Raise the Collateral

Financely calculates the collateral requirement and structures the financing around the applicant's available security and repayment capacity.

Depending on the transaction, the collateral stack can incorporate secured private credit, asset-backed lending, receivables financing, inventory finance, contract-backed facilities, sponsor equity or other forms of structured credit.

STEP 06

Banking and Issuer Placement

Once the transaction has been structured, Financely approaches suitable banking and financial counterparties according to the applicant profile, jurisdiction, collateral package, instrument size, tenor and beneficiary requirements.

The goal is to establish an executable route covering the credit facility, issuing institution, SBLC wording and any confirmation requirement.

Bank Confirmation

Potential Confirming Banks

Some beneficiaries require an additional international bank to add its confirmation to the instrument. Financely can incorporate this requirement into the banking strategy and approach the transaction according to the beneficiary's acceptance criteria.

HSBC
Global trade-finance institution with established letter-of-credit confirmation capabilities across major trade corridors.
Citi
International transaction bank active in documentary and Standby Letter of Credit confirmations.
Standard Chartered
Major documentary-trade bank with particular coverage across Asia, Africa and international emerging-market corridors.
Deutsche Bank
Global transaction bank with established trade-finance, letter-of-credit and confirmation capabilities.
Confirmation is transaction-specific. A confirming bank evaluates the issuing institution, issuing-bank limits, country exposure, tenor, wording and transaction risk before accepting a confirmation request. References to banks above describe potential institutional routes and do not represent a commitment by a named bank to participate in a specific Financely transaction.
STEP 07

Finalize the SBLC Wording

The beneficiary's required wording is reconciled with the issuing institution's approved format. Financely coordinates the commercial and documentary points required to reach an acceptable final instrument.

This includes the face value, expiry, drawing conditions, governing rules, beneficiary bank coordinates, presentation requirements and any confirmation instructions.

STEP 08

Complete Conditions Precedent

The applicant completes the closing requirements established by the lender and issuing institution. These may include financing documentation, security perfection, collateral funding, account establishment, legal documentation, bank charges and final compliance approvals.

STEP 09

SBLC Issuance

After the conditions precedent are satisfied, the issuing bank transmits the Standby Letter of Credit to the beneficiary's bank. SWIFT-issued SBLCs are generally delivered using the MT760 message format.

The beneficiary bank authenticates the transmission and advises the beneficiary according to its internal banking procedures.

What Does It Cost to Secure an SBLC?

Financely charges a single engagement fee calculated at USD 32,500 per USD 1 million of requested SBLC face value. The minimum transaction size is USD 2 million.

The engagement covers Financely's advisory, structuring, collateral-financing origination, transaction preparation, banking outreach and execution coordination.

Bank issuance charges, confirmation commissions, lender interest, legal expenses outside the agreed scope and other third-party closing costs depend on the final transaction and are separate from the Financely engagement fee.

Who Qualifies?

Financely's SBLC program is intended for established companies, project sponsors, importers, exporters, contractors and commercial counterparties with a genuine requirement for bank-backed credit support.

Typical applications include commodity transactions, supply contracts, project obligations, acquisition structures, performance security, payment assurance and other transactions supported by identifiable commercial documentation.

Applicants should have a clear beneficiary, a defined commercial obligation, credible financial information and an identifiable repayment source for any collateral financing required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Financely's minimum SBLC transaction?

The minimum transaction size is USD 2,000,000.

How much is the engagement fee?

Financely charges USD 32,500 per USD 1 million of SBLC face value. A USD 2 million SBLC therefore carries a USD 65,000 engagement.

Can Financely raise the collateral?

Yes. Financely structures and raises collateral financing for eligible SBLC transactions. The financing can be built around assets, receivables, inventory, contracts, cash flow, sponsor capital or another acceptable security package.

Can the SBLC be confirmed by another bank?

A confirmation request can be incorporated where required by the beneficiary. Potential institutions include major international trade-finance banks such as HSBC, Citi, Standard Chartered and Deutsche Bank. Confirmation depends on the confirming bank's acceptance of the issuing institution, country exposure, tenor, wording and available credit limits.

Is MT760 a separate instrument from an SBLC?

MT760 is the SWIFT message commonly used by banks to transmit an issued Standby Letter of Credit. The SBLC is the bank undertaking itself.

What do we need to start?

Provide the applicant, beneficiary, requested face value, tenor, commercial purpose, beneficiary bank, underlying contract, proposed wording where available and a summary of the applicant's current collateral position.

Important: Financely provides corporate finance advisory, transaction structuring, collateral-financing origination and execution coordination services. Financely acts as arranger and adviser rather than the issuing bank. Collateral financing, bank confirmation and SBLC issuance remain subject to the participating institutions' KYC, AML, sanctions screening, credit underwriting, legal review, documentation and final approval.
